Legendary archaeologist and all-round risk taker Lara Croft returned in 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider, developed by Eidos Montréal and published by SQUARE ENIX.
THE CHALLENGE
SQUARE ENIX were looking to create a custom Xbox One X console and controller for Shadow of the Tomb Raider. The commission wasn’t just to help advertise the game; it was also created to raise funds for the Best Friends Animal Society.

Design-wise we went all-out; the Xbox One X looked like a lost Mayan temple inscribed with ancient text and glyphs, complemented by a glowing eclipse symbol. The console was covered in faux moss and sculpted vines, as was the controller.
The console attracted a lot of industry press and attention from publications such as Forbes, helping to raise the profile of not only Shadow of the Tomb Raider, but the Best Friends Animal Society, too. The console sold at an eBay auction for an astonishing $7,600, with all proceeds going straight to the charity.
