HOYOVERSE – GENSHIN IMPACT FONTAINE SOUNDTRACK AND LIVE PERFORMANCE

THE PROJECT
Developed by China’s MiHoYo, action-RPG Genshin Impact has been a huge commercial success since its 2020 release. Genshin Impact has since crossed over to other forms of media and developed cult status.

THE CHALLENGE
Genshin Impact’s international publisher HoYoverse approached us and asked us to help them source musicians to record the score created for the game’s 4.0 ‘Fontaine’ update, released in August 2023.

TAKEOFF'S SOLUTION

HoYoverse had already arranged for part of the Fontaine score to be performed and recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra at the world-famous Abbey Road Studios. Our team was tasked with approaching a further eight soloists to complement the Orchestra’s work, and record parts of the score at Angel Studios and Air Edel in London.

We used our extensive connections in the entertainment industry to recruit some of the most celebrated soloists on the planet including jazz and classical specialist Chris Laurence (whose credits include Amadeus and Hugo), Europe’s most recorded flute player Andy Findon, award-winning classical accordion player Miloš Milivojević, and double RAM-winning Viola da Gamba specialist Kate Conway.

Seasoned BBC Proms participant Nigel Woodhouse, guitar legend (and ‘Guitar Whisperer’) Richard Durrant, BBC Concert Orchestra’s Alasdair Malloy (one of the few glass harmonica players in Europe), and British lutenist and musicologist Lynda Sayce made up the rest of our talented team.

We scheduled and managed their studio performances and also arranged for them to perform their parts for a live video performance at The Roundhouse, including the London Symphony Orchestra and led by internationally-acclaimed conductor Robert Ziegler.
