NACON – SESSION: SKATE SIM KEY ART

THE GAME
Session: Skate Sim is a skating game inspired by the ‘90s street skating scene; what many skaters consider to be the pastime’s golden age. Session: Skate Sim was developed by Crea-ture Studios and published by Nacon.

THE CHALLENGE
Nacon asked us to design key art for Session: Skate Sim that could be used as the cover art for physical and digital copies of the game.

TAKEOFF'S SOLUTION

Session: Skate Sim is unique in the genre in that it was designed with key input from skaters who grew up in and around ‘90s street-skating culture. With Session: Skate Sim designed by skaters, for skaters, our cover key art for the game featured throwbacks to the scene that any ‘90s skating obsessive would instantly relate to.

Our key art for Session: Skate Sim focused on the underside of a skateboard, stamped with the game’s logo. Well-worn, the skateboard was grinding on a rail in a classic American-style urban setting; visible on the skateboarder were a pair of dirty baggy jeans and scuffed trainers. Essential to the ‘90s feel of our key art, too, was the ‘fish-eye lens’ filter – a feature of virtually every ‘90s skate video ever made.
