THE PROJECT
Since an initial release in September 2010 and subsequent updates and expansions, Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIV has grown to become one of the most popular MMORPG games in history with millions of players registered.
THE CHALLENGE
To celebrate Final Fantasy XIV’s full release on Xbox platforms in March 2024, Square Enix and Microsoft asked us to create a custom Xbox Series X (with controllers), as part of a promotional partnership, which could be won in a competition.

TAKEOFF'S SOLUTION
Crystals have always played a key role across Final Fantasy’s rich, story-led universe. Their role in Final Fantasy XIV is a bit more front-and-centre than previous entries, though, and carry real significance in both story and gameplay terms. With this in mind, we decided to handcraft a crystal-style Xbox Series X that any Final Fantasy fan would love to own.
Our design experts created a 3D-printed base with crystal shards protruding from it. Illuminating in the dark, we also created surrounding rings with crystal shard features, similar to those found on the in-game Aetheryte crystals.
Including rune-like detailing (with the odd Xbox logo mixed in here and there!), our professional artists painted them gold, with the Series X and controllers coated with a beautiful crystal blue finish, completed with Final Fantasy XIV branding.
