Open-world action game Skull and Bones sees players fight to become legendary pirates and rule the Indian Ocean. Skull and Bones was developed by Ubisoft Singapore and published by Ubisoft.

A few months before Skull and Bones’ November ’22 launch, Ubisoft asked us to activate, and organise a reveal stream. Broadcast live to a global online audience from Singapore, it would need to introduce the game to players, highlight gameplay elements and encourage fans to sign up for the beta.

Hosted under the banner of the first ‘Ubisoft Forward’ – the publisher’s foray into livestream updates about its titles – the show began with Ubisoft Editorial Communications Manager, Youssef Maguid, introducing a vignette of sculpture specialist, Charles Boulnois, creating a custom wooden Skull and Bones figurehead, which can be seen in-game.

Youssef then introduced some members of the Ubisoft Singapore development team before launching into the live reveal. Hosted from a highly-decorative set, actioned to resemble a pirate ship sailing calm waters at the golden hour, Youssef discussed and showed gameplay elements alongside World Producer, Vanessa Seow, and Game Director, Ryan Barnard.

The hosts discussed a wide range of Skull and Bones subjects such as its gritty story direction, PvP elements, ship customisation and management, tactical combat approaches and more. Live gameplay demonstrations with the Ubisoft Singapore team were streamed with commentary, with the show closing with key information such as release dates, places fans could leave comments to the team, directions to join the Insider Program and more.

TAKEOFF created and produced the waiting room concept followed by the entire live show. TAKEOFF also designed the motion graphics and slates for the Skull and Bones reveal – all managed and shot on location in Singapore. The stream attracted more than 300,000 viewers on YouTube and Twitch (and counting).
