THE PROJECT
Close to the Sun is a first-person horror adventure, developed by Storm in a Teacup and published by Wired Productions, set on a quarantined scientific cruiser, created by Nikola Tesla.
THE CHALLENGE
Set in the late 1800s, Close to the Sun has an extraordinary visual style. We were asked to make the most of it and produce a very limited run to capture attention into Tesla’s astonishing world.
ServicesLimited Edition, Packaging, Figurines, Print Design
We collaborated very closely with Wired Productions to create a collector’s edition for the game. With a run of just 1,000 units, it was meticulously crafted and rare, with the game’s beautiful art deco-style emblazoned on a steel case, premium finish presentation box and throughout the edition’s exclusive 48-page deluxe artbook.
Other rare goodies included the game (of course), a seven-inch vinyl game soundtrack created by Porcelain Pill, a Faraday key-card metal pin badge, the letter from Ada (featured in-game) that starts the events of Close to the Sun, and a numbered certificate of authentication.
The small run and exclusive nature of the collector’s edition also doubled as a perfect buzz kit that could be sent to select members and influencers in the gaming media. It’s a strategy that can be very effective, especially for those commissioning small runs for collector’s editions, who wish to command attention with something as beautiful as it is rare.
