BALDUR’S GATE 3 – COLLECTOR’S EDITION

THE PROJECT
Developed and published by Larian Studios, Baldur’s Gate 3 is the third entry in the legendary tabletop-style RPG series, based on the classic Dungeons & Dragons formula. Baldur’s Gate 3 was launched in 2023 and is widely regarded to be one of the best RPGs ever made.

THE CHALLENGE
There was a lot of pre-launch hype for Baldur’s Gate 3 which the game more than lived up to, and even surpassed. We were delighted to be part of it, as Larian Studios had asked us to create the collector’s edition for arguably the best game this generation.

TAKEOFF'S SOLUTION

We approached this project with the aim of creating the ultimate Baldur’s Gate bounty for a deeply-invested gaming community that has a real adoration for Larian’s epic games, Dungeons & Dragons, all things related to RPG gaming – on console, tabletop or otherwise – and collector culture.

We worked in tandem with Larian Studio’s creative team to design and manufacture a collector’s edition themed around the game’s terrifying Mind Flayer. The tentacled features of a glowing-eyed illithid featured prominently on our metallic-finished collector’s box, with the centrepiece of the kit a breathtaking, highly-detailed Mind Flayer diorama.

The 25 cm-tall statue depicts the octopus-like monster atop a rocky landscape, ready for battle, inviting a nearby Drow to strike. 

Alongside our figures were a 200-page art book featuring brilliant met-poly artwork of the game’s characters and locations, and a large, premium alloy d20 icosahedron designed to wow any tabletop gaming enthusiast.

The weighty d20 was housed inside a container alongside the figurine and a metallic tadpole keyring. Also included were six character sheets, a fabric map of Faerûn and Chibi-style stickers, all housed in a branded envelope. Also enclosed were Larian-designed stickers and digital content from the studio as well as Magic: The Gathering card packs.

20,000 + editions were created for PC and PlayStation 5 players which came with foil-embossed and numbered certificates for authenticity. Finally, we made sure to avoid the use of plastics where possible throughout the entirety of the collectors edition, instead using recyclable packaging materials such as paper, tissue and Styrofoam. Our collector’s edition sold out entirely at pre-order.
