THE GAME
Sea of Thieves is an action-adventure game developed by Rare and published by Xbox Game Studios, where players explore a rich, open world aboard pirate ships in a first-person perspective. The game serves up endless opportunities for adventure, danger, and discovery—anchored in deep lore and unpredictable seas.
THE CHALLENGE
To celebrate the 7th Anniversary of Sea of Thieves in March 2025, Microsoft approached us to create a limited-edition sweepstakes giveaway: a small run of custom Megalodon-themed Xbox controllers. With the Megalodon being such a legendary and fearsome presence in the game, we knew the design had to feel alive—something that could pull fans straight into the world’s myth and mystery.

TAKEOFF'S SOLUTION
We went all in for the community. Each controller is fully custom, featuring a 3D-textured shell for a tactile, rugged feel, sharp teeth, hand-painted surfaces, and custom-made buttons. A sculpted 3D dorsal fin rises from the frame, paired with UV-printed detailing and the iconic fluoro double-pupil eyes—a signature trait that instantly evokes the monstrous Megalodon.
The overall design brings the Megalodon to life, capturing the raw, fearsome energy of the beast as it surfaces from the depths.
‘The Devourer Sweepstakes’ runs until May 12th, giving the Sea of Thieves community the chance to win one of these one-of-a-kind controllers—designed to honor a true monster of the sea.
