THE PROJECT
Free-to-play mobile action-RPG Honkai Impact 3rd was developed and published by Chinese software giant HoyoVerse. Releasing in North America and Europe in 2018, the game quickly became a smash-hit, and has developed a huge following around the globe.
THE CHALLENGE
To mark the fourth anniversary of Honkai Impact 3rd’s release, we were asked to conduct a global tour, taking place in spring 2022. We were asked to organise exhibitions in New York, Berlin and Sao Paulo, to celebrate the game’s success with fans the world over.

Our team was delighted to accept the brief which, for thousands of international Honkai Impact 3rd fans, would be their first chance to safely attend an exhibition following the general global easing of Coronavirus restrictions.
Each exhibition was 10 days long and a celebration of the game’s style that’s so loved by its fans. We activated galleries at each of our locations, featuring highly-detailed in-game artwork, graffiti specialists creating artwork around the game’s characters, and costume displays featuring original recreations of some of the game’s most popular character outfits.
We also discovered popular cosplayers across each region, and organised their participation in the exhibitions, dressed as their favourite characters.
Photobooths and other photo opportunities were available for fans to take pictures of themselves and cosplayers; TAKEOFF also handled sales of specially-created game merchandise at each event, which were attended by thousands of fans.
