TANKFEST 2024 – BRANDING, ANIMATION AND EVENT HOSTING

THE PROJECT
The world’s greatest exhibition of tanks, tank history and tank culture – TANKFEST – returned to The Tank Museum in Bovington, UK, for three days at the end of June 2024. TANKFEST 2024 was presented by World of Tanks creator, Wargaming.

THE CHALLENGE
We were asked to create visual branding for TANKFEST 2024 (including key art, motion graphics, animations and more) that could also be used to advertise TANKFEST 2024 via digital and print assets. We were also asked to organise and manage their showcase event, World of Tanks Player Party.

TAKEOFF'S SOLUTION

There was one key request given to us by TANKFEST’s organisers for its 2024 branding, and that was to make sure that key art featured the FV4005 Stage II – a powerful British tier 10 tank destroyer which has achieved cult status in World of Tanks. Making sure to have the FV4005 Stage II front and centre of our branding, our designers set about creating mood boards featuring a range of styles.

The client opted for a punk aesthetic for TANKFEST 2024, with our team developing a number of designs inspired by the British punk movement of the 1970s. When our ‘punk FV4005’ design was complete, we exported the key art into a variety of formats – both landscape and horizontal – that the organisers could use across a number of on- and offline advertising formats.

To celebrate the 13-year partnership between Wargaming and The Tank Museum, World of Tanks Player Party took place on 29 June 2024 and was an energetic night of gaming, free food and drink, music, activities, meet-and-greets with content creators and more.

Held at O2 Academy Bournemouth, our team managed the event including organising live music, delivering and activating war-themed props (including oil drums, ice cream trike, popcorn machines and more). Custom T-shirt printing and temporary tattoo stands were also at the event – our ‘punk tank’ branding could also be seen across the venue and on TANKFEST merchandise, too.

That branding also extended to animations and motion graphics (using the same punk colour palette, brush-effect style and various extra tanks from the game) which were used as warm-up videos and VJ assets for the bands and DJs performing at World of Tanks Player Party, with the attendees having a great evening as part of the wider TANKFEST 2024 celebrations.
